We believe that all children learn to their maximum potential when supported in a collaborative learning environment involving parents, guardians and professional staff.
The purpose of Public Education in Berlin is to stimulate and guide, along with parents, the intellectual, emotional and physical growth of all students in the community toward responsive, self-disciplined, creative, contributory and perceptive citizenship in a free society. To accomplish this purpose, the system of education must recognize individual differences while helping each student to develop toward his or her full potential.

Emma Hart Willard School

September 2009

Dear Willard Families,

We are excited to launch this new website as one way to communicate with you.  Mr. Clapp, our Webmaster, is working with all members of the school community to refine and revise the information on these pages to develop a useful and “easy to use” tool.  Please visit the site throughout the year for any new updates and changes.

The 2009 – 2010 school year is off to a good start and our staff members are working hard to support your children to become the best readers, writers, mathematicians, musicians, artists, scientists, athletes, and thinkers they can be. Our school goal will target literacy as stated below:
100% of Willard students will become independent strategic readers as evidenced by the ability to meet or exceed:

• CT Preschool Standards COG 9 - 11 Pre reading Skills (pre K)
Understands and participates in conversation
Shows Understanding of Stories
Displays Knowledge of Books and Print

• DRA independent benchmark (grades k-5)

• CREC Assessment benchmark (grades 3-5)

• CMT Reading Comprehension Goal (grades 3-5)

We hope you and your children have a great school year and look forward to a positive partnership in the common goal of maximizing the achievement of all of our students.

Sincerely,
